Problems setting up a hdsp card

in

Hi,
i am going to setup a Laptop with RME Multiface and cardbus interface. When the card is plugged in the system hangs in state:
"Waiting for uevents to be processed"

When it is unplugged it starts normally. I guess there is a mismatch with the kernel konfiguration but i used the same setup as i do with annoter computer successfully.. Both run with Gentoo. I have no clue what this is and furthermore it happens at a early state where no logs are written.

Can anybody help here?

thanks
Erdie

Curious midi-binding problem on rec enable

in

Hi.

I'm running Ardour 2.8.11 (7387) on ubuntustudio and using a bcf2000 as control surface in generic midi mode. (i know about, and have tried the emulation modes, but have decided to make my own templates)

Anyway, almost everything is working fine, except that when I bind rec enable on individual tracks (Example, track 1) with button 1 (push function of encoder button) the binding vanishes after restarting the session. It's also lost in a template-save. I've also tried binding it to other buttons, and the same happens then-it functions fine until I close and opens up the session.

new CPU should I look for better Floating Point or Integer Performance (anything else to consider AVX?)

in

I'm actually jumping the gun but I'd like to make the right choice... .. when my current lease runs out (and my fiance gets my current system for her science degree) there appears to be a distinct difference between current AMD and Intel offerings coming this year

AMD (bulldozer) offer much better integer calculation performance at the sacrifice of floating point calculation.

Export formats

in

A few questions around export file formats:

1 Assume the session is 24 bit. When exporting from Ardour to a file for processing outside Ardour, would it be better to export at 24 bit, or 32 bit float? What might influence this decision?

2 When exporting from a 24 bit Ardour session to a file with lower word length, say 16 bit, is it recommended to apply dither? Which type of dither is recommended (my general reading seems to suggest triangular)?

Thanks!

Hello all just put up a new website geared towards linux audio and video

in

My hope with this is to give new people (and old) to the linux world a way to search and find info on audio and video devices using linux. It is a try and I would like to enlist anyone who has an audio card or video gear to list your sound card and put up pics. It will be a place to also rate them! I want to help support Ardour in this effort to make this recording platform as easy to use and with good knowledge about the gear you will use as possible. (on linux of course) OSX and Windows has great influence and also has great driver support so I want linux to have that also.

Automation / panning - stereo - only on the right side

in

Hello !

This is an odd bug I just noticed after doing a whole project. I remember noticing something unusual the first times I used it, but got confuse with it since many tracks are panning on left because they were recorded this way or were added effects to do this panning.

Bounce in real time?

in

I'm interested in trying Tom Szilagy's IR convolution reverb. http://factorial.hu/plugins/lv2/ir

Tom makes this observation:

"You may or may not run into issues when freewheeling (eg. Ardour session export). In effect, zita-convolver does not wait for its worker threads to complete, so if the library is called too often (not in realtime), there may be "soft xruns" in the plugin's output. Please listen to the output carefully, or bounce in realtime."

How would one bounce in real time?

Thanks again! Paul H

Latency compensation in Ardour 2.8.12

in

I am unclear what (if anything) I need to configure for latency compensation in 2.8.12. This is in the context of recording against playback of previously recorded tracks.

Would appreciate some enlightenment!

Thanks. Paul H

Ardour Hardware for Linux (Line 6 Pod Studio UX1 with Pod Farm)

in

Hello All. I didn't check to see if this topic already existed, but will this work well with Ardour:

Line 6 Pod Studio UX1 with Pod Farm

If not, do you suggest another piece of hardware like this?

Thanks

RME digi9652 with M52 rom

in

Hi, i've bought a digi9652 on ebay to use it on my linux box (ubuntu 11.10) with ardour, but it seems that it doesn't work correctly: i cannot select the RME card and only internal analog audio interface works.
I also tried to play some audio files with audacity routing the output to a fostex fd-8: sound level was pretty minimal and with a LOT of white noise.
Looking at the card I've noticed it's a rev 1.5 with M52 rom... i wonder if the Macintosh rom is the problem or not.
Maybe swapping to a W52 rom can solve the problems... right?
