Hello,
Recording a track seems to be moved from it's original position to playhead position when stopped. I am running Ardour 2.8.8 (rev 7167).
I installed this manually from source with 2.8.7 it was fine. Not sure what setting this can be fixed in.

You both just made my day much better. Oddly, enough, the same thing started happening to me last night (running 2.8.7) and I was pretty confused. I've never intentionally wandered out of the slide editing mode (yet another feature I have yet to explore), but I must have slopped a stray click on that drop-down menu at one point.
At any rate, thanks Rony for asking and thanks Chrisg for answering. The Ardour forums have saved me once again.
Sounds like you have the edit mode set to splice rather than slide. Take a look at the drop down menu on the far left of the second tool bar.
