bcf2000 usb - updating firmware
i bought a second hand bcf2000, and it only has 1.04 firmware installed. Am I right in thinking I need to update the firmware to get better support with Ardour?
I only have access to USB (no midi port), and thus, updating the firmware with linux is difficult. I know it can be done using a regular midi setup, but anyone got any success over USB?
I’m using Fedora7.
(the theory being you can ’cat firmware.sys > bcf2000) but I’m clueless how to do this over USB.
Niko – Your answer is in the manual, here: http://www.ardour.org/files/manual/sn-bcf2000.html
You need to ID the appropriate device name for the bcf when connected, then cat the firmware to that device.
I’ve done it with Fedora following the instructions in the Ardour manual:
http://ardour.org/files/manual/sn-bcf2000.html
Also, please consider CCRMA-lizing your Fedora (http://ccrma.stanford.edu/planetccrma/software/). I do it. Paul Davis does it. What more could you want?
Seriously. The CCRMA repos solve a lot of problems off the bat. I’m not sure if they’re up to FC7 yet, but I’m using FC6 with pretty fantastic stability. Regardless of your bcf2000 situation, if you desire more multimedia stability or just more audio apps ready to go, consider either downgrading to FC6 or installing it on another partition.
Good luck!
