As we grow nearer to the dog days of the northern hemisphere's summer, we bring you Ardour 2.0.5 ( DMG available), a fixup release coming after various issues were discovered on OS X while preparing a package of 2.0.4. Read more below for the changes in 2.0.5 (and 2.0.4 for those who missed it) ...

Changes since 2.0.4

  • code builds on OS X and older Linux systems (side-effect: reduced memory utilization by automation data)
  • font sizes parametized (to allow easier maintainance of themes) on OSX & Linux
  • crash revealed by GTK+ 2.11 (unstable new version of GTK) fixed

Changes since 2.0.3

  • protect ardour from sessions with errant capture sources stored in the (pending) session state. This was a major bug that has affected many people over the last several releases. It is now fixed.
  • add Theme Manager, including new "light" theme
  • add delta-cursor option from trunk (allows clock to display the gap between the edit+playback cursors)
  • massively increase automation resolution
  • support for 16 bit native file format
  • stop audio clocks from vanishing when turned off
  • plugin selection dialog now has filtering by name, type, author and more
  • permit GUI user-driven add/remove of MIDI ports
  • fix for radio grouping of subframes menu options
  • fix crossfade editor-induced crashing
  • safeguard against false disk underruns when punching in
  • correctly save user-modified keybindings to ~/.ardour2/ardour.bindings
  • fixes for building against GTK-OSX (Ardour now builds and runs on OS X without X11 - this is a source code feature, the DMG for OSX will still use X11 for now)
  • lots and lots of work to the Mackie Control surface support (many small changes and incremental improvements)

Fixes and features this release from: Sampo Savolainen, Doug McLain, Ben Loftis, John Anderson, Jesse Chappell and your grunt, Paul Davis.

Hi There,
Yes, there has been some “Issues” in testing relating to upgrades because Free added an upgrade to the GIMP packages. There is a solution to this, but if you want to wait a little bit, the next stable release is upon us.
64studio 2.1 release will include Ardour 2.2. This version is allready in the “testing”/”tryout” version of 64studio.
Please note, 64studio “Testing” is just the next version of 64studio - served Tartar. It us still based off Etch, and not “Testing”/”Lenny” and after Free fixed it, should not cause much problems.
This was, in all fairness, the first time I found the 64studio testing in so much flux… and I am sure Free will make sure is does not happen again.
Please do not run away now. These are exiting times. My system is up to date on 64S testing, and Ardour2.2 is a dream, as is all the new versions of the software Free has loaded so far.
If you need more info, drop Free a mail (check the contacts page)
Cheers!

There were problems at work on macOS 10.5 Leopard. When to expect the new release working on 10.5?
